It’s just a party. What could go wrong?
Getting kicked out to start. Running into the man who destroyed your family.

Until she meets Jamie, who’s also hiding from the in-crowd. After spending the night with the cute stranger, Emma barely makes it home before news hits Belle Mère’s brunch tables. A body’s been found on the West estate, and Jamie is the number one suspect. But he couldn’t have done it…right?

Emma isn’t sure she can trust him or the rest of Belle Mère. After all, no one is safe when everyone is a liar.

THE DARKEST TORMENT Synopsis:

New York Times bestselling author Gena Showalter returns with her most explosive Lords of the Underworld tale to date, about a fierce warrior on the brink of sanity who will stop at nothing to claim the exquisite human with the power to soothe the beast inside him…

Driven to his death by the demon of Distrust, Baden spent centuries in purgatory. Now he’s back, but at what cost? Bound to the king of the underworld, an even darker force, he’s unable to withstand the touch of another…and he’s quickly devolving into a heartless assassin with an uncontrollable temper. Things only get worse when a mission goes awry and he finds himself saddled with a bride—just not his own.

Famed dog trainer Katarina Joelle is forced to marry a monster to protect her loved ones. When she’s taken hostage by the ruthless, beautiful Baden immediately after the ceremony, she’s plunged into a war between two evils—with a protector more dangerous than the monsters he hunts. They are meant to be enemies, but neither can resist the passion burning between them…and all too soon the biggest threat is to her heart.

But as Baden slips deeper into the abyss, she’ll have to teach him to love…or lose him forever.

Cover:

Firstly, wonderful cover.

Amazing artwork and striking color palette. The cover alone made me want to pick this book up. So a job really well done.

Review:

The prologue is brief but sufficient.
Humans no longer die. They keep remembering old memories.

Every soul leaves its imprints on the retina.and the government has ways to control past memories. The world is a miserable place, where even childe have to keep guns by their sides.
Nadia is an exception. Her retina has no imprint. But her sister seems to be in trouble because of her nightmares.
But soon Nadia is proclaimed an abnormal because she lacks any imprint and is imprisoned with blacklisted males.
Soon enough she becomes a lab rat, being experimented on by the elites.
She manages to escape with the help of another prisoner. But soon she learns no one cares for her and everyone is out there to use her, including her parents.
Accompanied by a psychopath blacklisted criminal and two teenage spies, Nadia is trying to escape her fate.
And from the horrible situation she is in, where every person looks out only for themselves, she might find someone who actually cares, or so it seems.

My Opinion
Action packed, not a dull moment.
I was starting to think dystopias are getting boring and then comes a good book to change my mind.
The protagonist is fierce and loyal . The hero is not your usual handsome guy. He is ruthless, a bit crazed, has elvish ears and is rough and rugged rather than smooth and handsome.

The characters are portrayed really well and their real emotions and personalities are displayed rather than overly polished and commercialized versions.
The plot, character development , environment, descriptions everything is really well thought out. Though the past life concept was a little too much for my liking and its linking to retina imprint was not explained well.

Its really one of those books that you can’t put down and can’t wait for the next book in the series. Definitely one of the best books I’ve read in 2016, so far.
This one’s to watch out for. It’s going to be huge!

My Rating: 8 out of 10

Mood Recommendation:
Read this if you are a fan of dystopias and a enjoy a bit of science fiction. Though it sometimes involves graphic depiction of gore, like human body parts.

Books that I can’t wait to read in 2016!

There are a couple of (okay more than a couple of books) that I would love to read this year.
Even though my TBR pile is huge, I can’t help myself when I see a new book that promises to be awesome.
Covers play a major role. I judge a book by it’s cover. And when the cover manages to do justice to the story line; double awesome.

There are a few writers whose books I would pick without even checking the blurbs or the covers.
They are as follows along with their upcoming books I would love to read and review.

1. Blood Milk and chocolate 2 by Cameron Jace

image

Anyone who follows my blog knows I absolutely adore Cameron’s books.
My favorite is the Grimm Diaries series but any of his books are a guaranteed source of entertainment.
That being said Blood Milk and Chocolate 2 is high on my TBR list. I cannot wait to know the fate of the beloved fairytale characters.
As is Cameron’s specialty, BMAC revolves around a retelling of classic fairy tales in a unique way.
Even though this has already been released but I haven’t been able to get my hands on it.
I already did a cover reveal.

2. The Darkest torment by Gena Showalter
image

Lords of the Underworld is one of the coolest series out there.
The demon possessed warriors have come a long way since the series started with Maddox. It has tamed down a bit too, but still hasn’t lost its charm.
The next in series is Baden’s story.
He is back from the dead and set to rock the warriors lives.

I have to grab this!
Expected Release Date: May 31st

3. Gods by Ednah Walters

image

Third installment in the Eirik Series.
Celestia and Eirik’s is a rollercoaster tale and will definitely keep you hooked.
Eirik’s character has evolved since Runes came out and definitely in a good way.
If you haven’t read Ednah’s books, you are missing out.
June 14 is the release date of this beauty.

4. Soul Finder by Jacinta Maree
I recently reviewed part one of the book and can’t wait to read the next in series.
Its a sci fi book. A dystopoian Science fiction mix where immortality is considered a curse.
Writing style of the author is what captured my interest.
Expected release date is 31st July, 2016.

5. Cursed Child by J.K Rowling

image

No introduction necessary.
The most awaited book of the year.
Every Harry Potter fan is waiting for it, to re live the magical excitement only Harry Potter series can bring.
Expected release date:July 31st 2016.

There you go.
Check out these awesome books.
And authors, I wouldn’t mind some ARC’s (hint, hint).

Expand Your Personal Brand

Aim of the book:

The book shines light on practical, implementable methods to polish your professional brand.

Layout:

Each chapter filled with useful, to-the-point information is followed by a practical exercise.

Review:

This is an easy to understand book in which the author has wrung out her experiences and knowledge for the benefit of the reader.
She has presented tried and tested methods to handle your career like a pro.
Really helpful information. The writer knows what she is talking about, and this is evident from the practical exercises presented at the end of each chapter.

From setting priorities, having contingency plans, advancing your portfolio, investing in your self to managing your projects effectively, are covered briefly.
The book mostly talks in terms of project management and seems to be written for project managers. However, the techniques can be employed by any professional.
Having a positive mindset is also mentioned. Getting rid of negativity and eradicating stress, so that you can move forward positively.
Chapters detailing networking and presenting yourself and your specialities are also included.
It is a handy and practical book of you are looking to establish your brand. As in today’s competitive work environment, having a unique and consistent brand is becoming a necessasity.
The book was successful in presenting what it aimed to showcase.

Cover
The cover failed to impress, to be honest. Somehow, it does not do justice to the theme of the story. Seems like a generic cover.

Review

Ashton Keller spent three years in jail for murdering his friend when he was fourteen. His best friend Willow Lamott never believed that he was the real criminal. Even though three witnesses claimed Ashton as being the murderer, Willow stood by her belief.
This made her life difficult after Ashton was sentenced to prison, with everyone accusing her for her loyalty to a murderer. To make matters worse, Ashton never replied to any of her letters and she felt lonely and was forced to withdraw.
Ashton on the other hand was feeling betrayed and hurt because everyone he loved abandoned him ad left him to suffer.
But after his early release from jail, he is determined to go back to Guilt Hollow and set everything right.
His experience has made him mistrustful of everyone, but will Willow be able to gain his trust back and will the misunderstanding between them be able to resolve.
Someone in Guilt Hollow is determined to get rid of Ashton and anyone who is willing to help him. And since no one in the authority is on his side, Ashton has to tread carefully or abandon his mission, just to protect Willow and her family.

It’s an entertaining read. The twists and turns are interesting. There isn’t a dull moment. Though the last few chapters before the ending are a bit cliche, with everything unfolding in a classic high-school haloween backdrop.
Other than that, the book maintains its originality.
The characters are really well developed. Their interactions, their emotions are excellently described.
The chemistry between the lead characters is well developed.
Overall a nice read.

My Rating : 6 out of 10

Mood Recommendation: Read this if you are in the mood of a little bit of a mix of crime/mystery/high school romance.
The romance, by the way, avoids being cheesy, thankfully.
