Revolution by Jessica Frances: A review

Cover: It’s good. The font doesn’t seem to fit with the theme of the story, though.

All humans deserve to be free.

Revolution is a dystopian novel. Humans are treated as lowly beings. There have been a lot of dystopian novels where humans maybe advanced in technology but lacking in warmth and compassion in the society. Revolution revolves around the same concept except here the human’s conditions are really really worse. In fact they are ruled by their superior genetically enhanced counterparts and have no rights. They are kept as slaves, made to fight each other for the Superiors entertainment, bred forcefully and slaughtered. Basically they are looked down upon.
Tilly,  Tiger Lilly, is a pet human. She is a slave. Caged since she was a baby, she has grown up to be a strong young girl. Being one of the few who had a nurturing caretakers in the form of her owner’s children, she never lost her spirit.
But she fell in love with Johnny, her captive’s son. This is strictly forbidden and causes Johnny to lose his life. Afraid for Tilly’s life, Charlotte, Johnny’s sister and Tilly’s best friend, arranges for her to escape.
Tilly must test her strength trying to survive the harsh world of Superiors. She discovers there is a group of rogue humans living in the forest. Because of her thirst for freedom and determination to not let Johnny’s sacrifice be in vain, Tilly sets off to be a part of this human group.
The group’s purpose is freedom for their race. And Tilly becomes a part of this revolution.

Johnny is a genetically enhanced human. All his life, his every action is preplanned by his father. But Johnny cannot help it when he falls for their slave, Tilly.
It is a crime to have feelings for lowly humans, a crime for which Johnny will have to pay for.

Johnny and Tilly are ripped apart. But they are determined to change the world.
The book is from Tilly’s and Johnny’s point of views.

Pros and Con’s:

Does this book grip you or what?
It pulls you right in.
Packed with action.
The chemistry between Johnny and Tilly is amazing, it is beautiful although it does gets a bit cheesy. Especially the romance scenes, they were a bit too much. They should have been more subtle, I think.
The strongest point of this book is the portrayal of emotions. They are powerfully described. The author manages to convey Tilly’s fear, her hope, her determination and Johnny’s intense feelings of care and love for her, in a beautiful way.

My Rating: 7 out of 10

Mood Recommendations: This book makes for an entertaining read. Go for it if you read dystopia genre.

Revolution by Jessica Frances

Genres: Dystopia, New Adult

I was raised in a world where humans no longer rule.
In the past, we made a terrible mistake by creating a new species we thought would serve us as our army, which led to our downfall.
There was a war, we lost, and many lives were massacred. It was the end of life as we knew it and the beginning of a hell we were now trapped in. We became enslaved to what we now called Superiors, becoming pets to them, simply there to entertain.
In a world so miserable, I managed to do the unthinkable: I fell in love. But even that was doomed, because to love a Superior was forbidden.
What the rest of the Superiors didn’t know was how deeply a human could love or how resilient we became when we were hurt.
The Superiors never could have imagined an uprising, which was why they never saw it coming.
Humans deserved to be free, and I would stop at nothing to deliver that promise.
My name is Tilly, and I am still alive with one sole purpose: to begin a revolution.

I had been raised to believe humans were worthless. We owned them and controlled them, and when we were done with them, we threw them away. Therefore, I never thought I would ever feel more for Tilly than disinterest. I never expected to want to save her.
It was forbidden for a Superior to love a human. No one had ever crossed that line, but I did. I fell madly in love with her, so it was no surprise how we ended up.
I was raised to be a soldier, and that was what I was always going to be. However, I was not a soldier for the Superiors, not anymore.
I became a soldier for humans, and I would stop at nothing to help them. They deserved to be free, and I would die protecting them.
My name is Johnny, and I am here with one sole purpose: to finish a revolution.
